Professor Daniel Yurgaitis, the Director of Theatre at Northern State University, has a BA in Speech and Drama (1972) from DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois and an MFA in Theatre/Directing (1991) from the United States International University in San Diego, California. During the past two years, Professor Yurgaitis has directed Drowsy Chaparone, Love's Labour's Lost, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Phantom of the Opera, and Xanadu for Northern State; The Fantasticks and The Marvelous Wonderettes for the Northern Fort Playhouse at Fort Sisseton State Park; and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Chicago for the Aberdeen Community Theatre.In May 2012 Professor Yurgaitis was selected Northern State University’s 2011-12 Outstanding Educator of the Year.

He was the Managing Director of Detroit's Attic Theatre and his resume includes directing credits with California's North Coast Repertory Theatre, Arizona's Invisible Theatre, Illinois' Timber Lake Playhouse, Minnesota's Straw Hat Players, Nebraska's Post Playhouse and Michigan's Tibbits Summer Theatre.
Professor Yurgaitis is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
