MUSIC AT NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY
The center of music and drama activities is Northern State's Johnson Fine Arts Center. The 1,000 seat theater pictured below is the stage for countless diverse cultural events for northeastern South Dakota and southeastern North Dakota. The Johnson Center also includes classrooms, two rehearsal halls, a seven-rank pipe organ, practice rooms, studios and the Berggren Recital Hall. In total, NSU offers students 20 practice rooms, 40 pianos, a music technology classroom, a music computer lab, a digital recording cart and an extensive music library of over 20,000 titles. The music education laboratory is equipped with Orff instruments and the latest in audiovisual and instructional materials for teacher preparation. Music faculty and students also teach and learn using the technology of the Center for Statewide E-learning housed on the NSU campus.
