Appropriate Junior Field Activities for Teacher Candidates
Suggested activities for teacher candidates include:
Observe students in different learning environments.
Develop instructional materials in content areas to be used by students.
Plan lessons for and teach small and/or large groups of students.
(NOTE: At least one complete lesson plan must be prepared and taught. The
Cooperating Teacher and University Supervisor will need a copy of the lesson
plan and will do a formal evaluation of the candidate teaching a lesson.)
Co-teach with a classroom teacher.
Converse with students about academic interests.
Read to students or listen to them read.
Work with individual students or small groups of students.
Observe the teacher’s planning, implementation and assessment.
Begin keeping a notebook of art ideas, bulletin board displays, book titles,
instructional materials, management techniques, and teaching strategies.
